Java Developer Resume Example: Spring Boot, APIs, and Testing
A Java developer resume example for India, covering Spring Boot, SQL, Kafka, and JUnit, plus the bullets service companies and banks actually search for.
Short answer: name the Java version, Spring Boot, the database, and the system you built. "Core Java, Advanced Java, JDBC" is how a 2014 resume reads. Current Java roles in India ask for Spring Boot, REST APIs, SQL, and a test framework.
Service companies, banks, and product teams all search those words. If they appear only in a skills dump, and the experience section says "worked on enhancements", the match is weak.
Keywords worth a bullet, not just a list
Use the words that match the work you did:
- Java and the version you write, such as Java 17
- Spring Boot, and Spring Data JPA or Hibernate if that is your persistence layer
- REST APIs
- SQL, with MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle named
- JUnit and Mockito, if you write tests
- Kafka, Docker, or AWS, only where you have used them
Microservices belongs in a bullet when you can say how many services and what they did. It does not belong as a lone skill next to "Agile" and "SDLC".
Example
Headline: Java Developer | Spring Boot, Microservices, Kafka, AWS
Summary: Java developer with 3 years building Spring Boot services for a banking client. Works on REST APIs, JUnit coverage, and Kafka for disbursement events.
Java Developer, Trident Tech Services (client: a private bank), Hyderabad Jul 2023 to present
- Built three Spring Boot microservices for loan disbursement, handling about 15,000 requests a day.
- Added JUnit and Mockito tests and raised coverage on those services from 40% to 78%.
- Replaced a batch file transfer with Kafka events, cutting disbursement delay from 4 hours to 10 minutes.
Skills
- Backend: Java 17, Spring Boot, Spring Data JPA, Hibernate, REST APIs
- Data and messaging: MySQL, Oracle, Kafka
- Tools: Maven, Docker, Jenkins, AWS, Git
This is an example with figures chosen for the sample. Replace the request volume, the coverage, and the delay with numbers from your own service. If you cannot share client volume, describe the feature and the change: "moved disbursement from a nightly file to Kafka events."
Before and after
Before: Worked on Spring Boot microservices for a banking client.
After: Built three Spring Boot microservices for loan disbursement handling about 15,000 requests a day, and added JUnit and Mockito tests that raised coverage from 40% to 78%.
The domain (banking, loans) matters in Indian service-company resumes because staffing teams filter on it. Name the domain even when you cannot name the bank.
What to stop writing
- Core Java / Advanced Java / J2EE as three separate skills, with no framework and no system
- A project section that is only the stack: "Java, Spring, MySQL". Say what the software did and who used it
- Tools you opened once in a training batch. Jenkins on the skills list with no pipeline in any bullet reads as padding
- A photo, two columns, or a skills bar chart. Parsers used by Workday and Naukri want text
Freshers and first-job Java resumes
Two projects are enough if each one runs:
- One REST API with Spring Boot, a real database, and at least a few tests
- One more that shows something adjacent: a simple React or Thymeleaf UI, Docker, or a queue
For each project, write the feature, the stack, and a scale you know (users, records, or endpoints). Link the GitHub URL as plain text. Headline and summary lines for campus resumes are in resume summary for freshers.
One page until you have two employers. Section order is in the fresher resume format.
Action verbs that fit the work
Built, designed, migrated, added tests, cut latency, replaced a batch job. "Responsible for" and "involved in" hide whether you wrote the service or attended the standup. A longer list of verbs for other roles is in product manager action verbs. The same rule applies here: the verb has to match a task you did.
Check a Java resume
Run the file through the Java developer ATS checker. It checks for Spring Boot, SQL, APIs, and testing, and flags bullets that never leave the duty list. If you are applying on Naukri, the Naukri resume checker is the same scan aimed at that profile.
Don't guess what the ATS sees.
