Civil Engineer Resume Example: Site, Design, and Billing

Short answer: say whether you are site, design, planning, or billing, then name the project type and size. "Worked on a residential project" does not tell a contractor or a consultant what you can do. "Site engineer on a G+12 residential tower" does.

Recruiters hiring civil engineers in India search for project type, software, and codes. If those words are missing, the resume is hard to find on Naukri and in company portals.

Pick one focus in the headline

Site execution, structural design, quantity surveying, and planning are different jobs. The headline should pick the one you want next:

Site: Civil Engineer (Site) | High-rise residential, billing, QA/QC
Design: Civil Engineer (Design) | STAAD Pro, ETABS, AutoCAD
Planning / QS: Civil Engineer | Quantity estimation, BOQ, Primavera

A mixed resume is fine if you have done more than one. Put the target first, and do not let a two-month AutoCAD course bury four years of site work.

What to include for every project

For each site or design job, a reader should be able to answer:

What was built: residential tower, highway, water treatment plant, industrial shed
How big: floors (G+12), length of road, built-up area, or project value
Your slice: execution, billing, design, survey, quality
A result you can stand behind: schedule, variation, rework, or an audit

Software that belongs on a civil resume when you have used it: AutoCAD, STAAD Pro, ETABS, Revit, MS Project, Primavera. Codes that belong when you have worked to them: IS 456, IS 1893, and the contract specifications of that project. Do not list a code you have only seen in college unless the bullet is a final-year project and you say so.

Example: site engineer

Headline: Civil Engineer (Site) | High-rise residential, billing, QA/QC

Summary: Site civil engineer with 4 years on high-rise residential projects. Handles execution, subcontractor billing, and quality checks against the schedule.

Site Engineer, Skyline Constructions, Thane Jun 2022 to present

Site engineer on a G+12 residential tower (Rs 48 crore). Managed slab cycles and finished the structure 3 weeks ahead of the programme.
Prepared subcontractor bills and reconciled the BOQ, keeping variations under 2%.
Ran concrete cube tests and checklists to IS 456. Two audits closed with no major NCRs.

The rupee value, the floor count, and the schedule gap are what make this example specific. Use your project's figures. If the value is confidential, keep the floor count and your own scope, and drop the contract value.

Weak line, stronger line

Before: Worked as a site engineer on a residential project.

After: Site engineer on a G+12 residential tower. Managed slab cycles and subcontractor billing, and completed the structure 3 weeks ahead of schedule.

Example: design-side bullet

If your work is in the design office rather than on site, the same rule applies. Name the structure, the software, and what you delivered:

Modelled the RCC frame of a G+8 commercial building in STAAD Pro and produced drawings in AutoCAD for tender issue.
Estimated quantities for a 2 km internal road and prepared the BOQ used for contractor billing.

"Knowledge of STAAD Pro" with no model behind it is a skills-list claim. The bullet is what a design consultant searches for.

Freshers

A fresher civil resume still needs a project, not a list of subjects:

Site internship: contractor name, project type, what you measured or supervised, and the weeks you were there
Final-year project: software used and what you designed or tested
Software you can open and work in, not every package in the lab syllabus

Layout

Single column. No photo, no skill bars, no text inside a drawing title block used as the whole resume. Export a text PDF: you should be able to select a line of the experience section with your mouse. A scanned certificate can be a separate file. It should not be the resume.
