How to Add 10th and 12th Marks on a Resume

When Indian resumes should include 10th and 12th marks, how to write board, year, and percentage, and when a later job can leave them off.

Short answer: for a first job, articleship, or any form that asks for class 10 and 12, put the board, the year, the stream, and the marks exactly as the marksheet prints them. After you have a few years of relevant work, the degree is enough unless the application still asks for school marks.

People search this as "how to add 10th and 12th marks in resume", "is it necessary to add 10th and 12th marks in resume", and "should I mention 10th and 12th in resume". The answer depends on who is reading.

When to include them

Include both lines if any of these are true:

  • You are a fresher, including B.Com, B.Tech, MBA, or a student applying for an internship
  • You are applying for CA articleship or a campus process. Firms shortlist on school marks
  • The form has boxes for class 10 and class 12. The resume should match what you will type
  • A teaching, bank, or government application asks for the full education record

Leave them off when you already have about three years of work in the field you are applying for, and the form does not ask. A recruiter hiring a Java developer with three shipped services does not need the class 10 percentage. Keep the degree, college, and year.

If one employer asks and another does not, keep a full education block and delete the two school lines for the second file. Do not keep two different percentages.

How to write each line

One line per exam. Degree first, then class 12, then class 10.

  • B.Com, Osmania University, 2024. 78%
  • Class 12, CBSE, Commerce, 2021. 91.2%
  • Class 10, CBSE, 2019. 9.2 CGPA

Use the board name on the certificate: CBSE, ICSE, or the state board. Use the year of passing. Use the stream for class 12 (Commerce, MPC, BiPC, Arts) when the marksheet has one.

Copy the marks. If the sheet says 87.6%, write 87.6%, not 88%. If it says CGPA, write CGPA. Add a percentage beside a CGPA only when that percentage is printed on your marksheet or is the conversion your board states. A homemade conversion is a different number from the one on the certificate, and campus teams compare the two.

"12th pass" with no board and no year is what people type when they are unsure. It does not answer a filter for 60% or 70%. If you passed and the percentage is on the sheet, write the percentage.

Where it goes

Under Education, after the degree, as plain lines. A two-column table often survives on paper and breaks in a parser: the percentage can land in the wrong year. Plain lines stay attached to the right exam. The same rule is in what an ATS reads.

Contact details stay in the body of the resume, above Education. School marks do not go in the header.

What people get wrong

  • A different number on Naukri and on the PDF. The portal profile and the file are checked against each other. Pick the marksheet figure and use it in both places.
  • CGPA written as a percentage with no conversion on the sheet.
  • A diploma or ITI omitted because class 12 was also written. If both happened, write both, with years.
  • An improvement exam hidden. Write the passing attempt you want them to use, and be ready for the earlier attempt if the form asks for every sitting. Do not invent a first-attempt score.

Backlogs and improvement attempts are a separate line in an interview, not a reason to change the passing percentage. If you need one sentence on the file, put the passing year and the final marks.

Freshers

Campus resumes in India are often one page, and Education is one of the few sections with proof. Include 10th, 12th, degree, and any entrance or professional exam you have actually cleared, with the level: "CA Foundation, Nov 2023" rather than "CA" . Section order for a first job is in the fresher resume format.

Check the education block

Upload the file to the ATS resume checker. Look at whether class 10, class 12, and the degree each kept their year and their marks, and whether those figures match the form you are about to fill.
